Parrots have an amazing ability to copy the sounds that people make, but nobody knows how they do it.
Some scientists believe that parrots talk because they need to feel a close friendship with another creature.
Wild parrots copy the calls of other parrots, but when parrots are around people, they imitate the sounds people make.
Do parrots understand what they say?
Parrots don´t know what those words mean. Sometimes a parrot will figure out the right time to say a word.
It might say ¨Come in¨when someone knocks on the door, or ¨Hello¨when the telephone rings. Does a parrot understand what it is saying? Only the parrot knows for sure.
